having only played basketball for my high school, organized ball since i was 7, and reffed (only rec leagues) im not gonna say im an expert, but id like to think i know a little bit.
its unbelievable that there were no flagrant (or intentional, as its called at the high school level) fouls called. i can see how foul #4 in the vid could be a judgment call. spur of the moment, everything happens quick, loose ball, multiple players going for it, fine, call that one a normal foul. ill even give you #2 (which i dont think was a flagrant/intentional) because the player who got fouled made the gesture thats universal for “ref he knocked it out of my hand, its our ball.” the dude wasnt thrown on the ground, and #42 on connell (in white) looked like he was just going for the strip.
but fouls #1, #3, and #5 in the vid? and seriously, #5?? ive fouled players not as hard and have gotten called for an intentional foul. you would think that one of the 3 really hard fouls would warrant a closer look by the refs.
even if the refs were very conservative, (which they clearly were) they should have called foul #5 an intentional/flagrant. thats clear as day.
i never liked playing against players that were just big, bulky, didnt know how to play D, and just fouled players. basketball is a beautiful game when played right and this is just destroying the game
im sure judging the players or questioning their character, im sure theyre fine people. just please, keep him/them off the court
